HMD Global on Tuesday announced the newest member to the Nokia X series of smartphones in China, the Nokia X7. The phone comes after the Nokia X6 and X5, which have been launched globally as the Nokia 6.1 Plus and 5.1 Plus globally. Going by that trend, the Nokia X7 will be called the Nokia 7.1 Plus when it launches globally. The phone has been announced highlighting a tall 6.18-inch screen with HMD’s PureDisplay technology and HDR 10 support and a Snapdragon 710 chipset, among other things.HMD has priced the Nokia X7 aka Nokia 7.1 Plus at CNY 1,699 (approx Rs 18,000) for the 4GB + 64GB option, CNY 1,999 (approx Rs 21,200) for the 6GB + 64GB version and CNY 2,499 (approx Rs 26,600) for the 6GB + 128GB variant. As of now, the device has only been announced in China, but it should launch in other markets as well including India in the coming months.The Nokia 7.1 Plus brings a design language that is a combination of the Nokia 6.1 Plus and the Nokia 7 Plus. It gets an edge-to-edge display with a notch and a chin. The edges are chamfered and the Series 6000 aluminium frame is flat much like the Nokia 7 Plus that was launched earlier this year. The device also gets silver/ copper accents around the rear camera, fingerprint sensor and the frame. The Nokia 7.1 Plus comes with a premium look thanks to a 2.5D curved glass on the back. The rear panel sees a pill-shaped dual camera setup vertically placed just above the fingerprint sensor.The Nokia 7.1 Plus gets a 6.18-inch FHD+ PureDisplay with HDR 10 support. The display offers a 18.7:9 aspect ratio and 86.5 per cent screen-to-body ratio. It is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 710 chipset based on 10nm process, which makes it the most powerful Nokia mid-range smartphone yet. This will be offered with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage, which will be expandable up to 400GB via a microSD card. The Nokia 7.1 Plus will ship with Android 8.1 Oreo with a custom skin on top in China, while globally it will run a pure version of Android and will be part of the Android One program. The phone should get updated to Android 9 Pie by the end of the year. The dual camera system includes a 13-megapixel primary IMX363 sensor with f/1.8 aperture and 1.4 micron pixels, and a 12-megapixel secondary sensor. The cameras also get OIS support On the front, the Nokia 7.1 Plus gets a 20-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1.8 micron pixels. The selfie camera supports beauty mode and portrait lighting features. Additionally, the cameras are backed by AI which will detect scenes and adjust the settings accordingly.
