Chance of thunderstorms in Clark County later Thursday

first_imgA National Weather Service meteorologist says Clark County has an elevated chance for another thunderstorm today, but if a storm moves over the area, it should be weaker than Wednesday’s heavy downpour.“It’s about 20 to 30 percent right now. It’s a pretty good shot for one to happen, but there won’t be as much rain, hail or lightning as before,” said Colby Neuman, with the weather service in Portland.Clark Public Utilities spokeswoman Erica Erland said in an email that Wednesday’s thunderstorm caused significant weather-related outages — several in east Clark County.“At the peak of the storm, there were seven outages affecting about 6,800 customers. We had three dispatchers working to move six servicemen (the utility’s first responders) … and three crews around the county for restoration work,” Erland said. The utility workers were able to restore power to the majority of customers by about 9 p.m., and fewer than 1,000 remained without power for a few more hours as repairs were completed, Erland said.last_img read more
