Facebook Twitter Google+ Syracuse (6-12-2, 5-4-1 College Hockey America) topped Robert Morris (12-4-3, 6-2-2) 4-2, on Saturday in the second of a two-game series. After losing to the Colonials on Friday by three goals, the Orange rebounded with a two-goal victory against last year’s CHA champion. In the first period, about eight minutes in, freshman defender Jessica DiGirolamo scored her first career goal to give the Orange the lead. Redshirt junior Brooke Avery’s assist on the play marked her 11th point on the season, only one behind team leader sophomore Kelli Rowswell.Five minutes into the second period, RMU tied the game via a Sarah Lecavalier score. But with just under six minutes remaining in the period, SU captain and senior forward Stephanie Grossi knocked home a power-play goal to push the Orange back ahead.Once more, RMU was able to even up the score only five minutes into the third period, as Emily Curlett’s power-play goal tied the game at two. Grossi struck again with only 12 minutes left though, giving SU its third one-goal lead of the game. Instead of wasting its single goal advantage this time, the Orange scored on an Avery empty net goal with under a minute left on the clock, tying her for the team lead in points and assuring an SU victory. With the upset over the first place Colonials, the Orange has now accrued 11 points and is tied for second in the CHA with Mercyhurst, though SU has played two more games than the Lakers.AdvertisementThis is placeholder text Comments Published on January 6, 2018 at 5:54 pm Contact Adam: email@example.com | @_adamhillman
