Shirley VolavkaShirley R. Volavka, of Caldwell, died Friday, February 8, 2013 at Servant Living Center in Medford, Okla. at the age of 83.Shirley was born the daughter of Frank L. and Vera Lee (Ulrey) Jones on Monday, June 3, 1929 in Medford, Okla.She and Jerry Volavka met at Sokol Hall and on October 11, 1948 they were united in marriage at the Medford Christian Church. Their marriage of over 58 years was blessed with the births of three children, Terry, Rick and Lu Ann. Jerry and Shirley farmed west of Caldwell where they lived until moving into town in 1958. In the 60’s the couple owned and operated the Case Implement dealership. Shirley later operated Shirley’s Cafe. Her family remembers her as a great cook that loved playing marbles. Always the animal lover, Shirley was particularly fond of her dogs, cats and pet bird. Above all, Shirley held a great love for her family and treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Survivors include her son, Terry Volavka of Wichita, daughter, LuAnn Netahla and her husband Mike of Caldwell, daughter-in-law, Brenda Volavka of Caldwell, brother, Jerry Jones and his wife Pat of Arvada, Colorado, sisters-in-law: Wanda Reed of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Madge Volavka of Caldwell, Barbara Wright of Anthony, grandchildren: Nathan Netahla and his wife Jen of Caldwell, Stacy Volavka Trojnar of Wichita, Dana Watts and her husband Eric of Wellington, Dusty Volavka and his wife Shannon of Caldwell, great-grandchildren: Haley Watts, Emma Volavka and many nieces, nephews and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jerry Volavka, son, Rick Volavka, brothers: Gene Jones, Bill Jones, Ed Jones, sister, Jane O’Conner and grandchildren: Christopher Netahla and Linsay Netahla- Clayton.Visitation will be held at the Day Funeral Home in Wellington from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 12, 2013 with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.Funeral services for Shirley will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2013 in the United Methodist Church, Caldwell.Interment will follow at the Czechoslovakian Cemetery, Caldwell.Memorials have been established in her loving memory with the Czechoslovakian Cemetery Fund and Sumner County Hospital District #1.
